Looking to educate the community on a variety of health topics, UTHealth hosts a series of monthly live web chats at area Mercedes-Benz dealerships across the city. The web chats are livestreamed online with the recorded videos available after the event, so Houstonians can watch where and when they want. Each House Call highlights a different topic, and have covered women’s health, brain health, food as medicine, children’s health and stem cells in the past.
The latest House Call, hosted by Mercedes-Benz of Clear Lake, covered Influenza and The Heart. The topic was particularly relevant, given that we are headed into what is expected to be a tough flu season. The House Call also covered information on heart health and how to reduce your risk for a heart attack. UTHealth professionals also provided flu shots to the attendees.

The dealership also provided two $5,000 scholarships to UTHealth, benefiting the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth.
Mohammad Madjid, MD, MS spoke at the event and has been an interventional cardiologist and assistant professor of medicine at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth for more than a decade. He has been researching the role of influenza in triggering heart attacks and establishing the efficacy of influenza vaccine in preventing cardiovascular events.
Attendees submitted questions on the role of inflammation in heart health, how heart medicines interact with flu medications, timing on flu shots, and treating fevers when fighting the flu.
