Vietnam Veteran Receives new Courtesy Nissan Vehicle in Recognition of His Service and Sacrifice

Retired U.S. Coast Guard officer, Gilbert “Frenchy” Benoit, Vietnam veteran and war hero, was gifted a brand new 2020 Nissan Compact Cargo Van through the Military Warriors Support Foundation Transportation4heroes program, Wells Fargo and Courtesy Nissan of Richardson.

More than 52 years ago, Benoit took a bullet and lost his legs in service of his country. Although he received many awards for his time served, including a Purple Heart, a Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, and a Navy Commendation Medal with Valor, Benoit never received a proper hero’s welcome and thank you for his service and sacrifice once returning to America.

Courtesy Nissan of Richardson, in partnership with Wells Fargo and Military Warriors Support Foundation were finally able to give Benoit the long-overdue tribute and appreciation for his time in Vietnam he deserved. His new, payment-free, Nissan Van includes hand controls, remote start and a wheelchair lift decorated by the veteran’s administration.

"Maybe this can be a little bit of positive light for him going forward and he seems pretty happy about it so I'm happy to be a part of it," said Courtesy Nissan general manager Brady Bishop.

Wells Fargo has collaborated with dealerships, like Courtesy Nissan, for eight years. In this time, they have given away more than 40 vehicles and other donations, like homes, to wounded veterans and families in the United States.

"It's just one small way that we can show our support for veterans and military families who really help support all of us, with freedom and service to our country," added Tanya Sanders with Wells Fargo.

Thank you to Courtesy Nissan for your help in supporting our Veterans and in giving back to the community!
